SUNGATE project reviews two years of advancements and sets priorities for the next phase

The EU-funded project SUNGATE marked another year of progress and collaboration during its 4th General Assembly and Executive Board meeting, held at the Centre of New Technologies (CeNT) of the University of Warsaw (UWA). The event brought together project partners to discuss recent achievements and set priorities for the next phase toward developing a novel, circular, sustainable, and cost-efficient bio-hybrid technology for the scalable production of solar fuels.
Call for Applicants: Energy System Modeling Partner for SUNGATE Project
Democracy x, on behalf of the SUNGATE Horizon Europe project, is currently looking to contract a foresight-based energy model contractor for a hotspot analysis for the potential of utilizing photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) in Europe.
The contractor should develop a model to identify optimal locations for future solar-to-fuel methanol production based on resource availability and geographical overlap. Key factors include CO2 point sources, fresh water, sunlight, land for PEC installation, and potential buyers. The study should estimate Europe’s solar fuel production potential using future resource forecasts, focusing on non-fossil CO2 sources. It must assess land requirements, CO2 availability, and feasible transport distances while ensuring energy return on investment (EROI) remains favorable. The subcontractor must publish a report with quantitative data (Excel, GIS analysis) and qualitative insights.
